Why I Selected PepsiCo

I selected this company because it’s one of the world’s leading beverage and food companies with a long history of strong consumer brands, continuous innovation, and the ability to adapt to changing market trends. It is a great company for researching how consumer preferences influence marketing strategy and product development because of its diverse portfolio of products, such as Quaker, Gatorade, Pepsi and Frito-Lay. PepsiCo has established a reputation for producing high-quality food and beverage products that are convenient while also responding to consumer demand for sustainability, healthier choices, and continuous product innovation. PepsiCo consumers expect consistent quality, trusted brands and products that fit their busy lifestyles. They also expect the company to continue expanding its portfolio with products that offer convenience without sacrificing nutritional value or taste. These are the strengths that make PepsiCo an ideal organization for introducing an innovative consumer product that addresses evolving consumer expectations while building upon the company’s reputation for market leadership and customer-focused innovation.

Introducing SmartSnack Studio™ MixBox

While many snack packs are available in grocery stores, most contain preselected products that offer little flexibility for consumers with different taste preferences, dietary restrictions, or wellness goals. This creates an opportunity for PepsiCo to introduce a product that provides greater choice while maintaining the convenience consumers expect.Today’s consumers are looking for snack options that are convenient, healthier, and personalized to their individual lifestyles. While many snack packs are available in grocery stores, most contain preselected products that offer little flexibility for consumers with different taste preferences, dietary restrictions, or wellness goals. This creates an opportunity for PepsiCo to introduce a product that provides greater choice while maintaining the convenience consumers expect. To address this unmet need, I propose SmartSnack Studio MixBox, a customizable snack box that lets consumers create their own assortment of PepsiCo snacks before purchase. Rather than purchasing a standard variety pack, customers use a mobile app or the website to select five snacks that best match their dietary needs, personal preferences, or daily routine. Once they make their selection, that assortment is packaged into a single, ready-to-purchase snack box.The SmartSnack Studio product incorporates features that extend beyond personalization. Each box will include a QR code that provides personalized snack recommendations based on the consumers selections, ingredient details and nutrition information. Every package is designed using materials that are recyclable, with an optional reusable storage container for consumers seeking a more sustainable option. Limited time themes and seasonal packaging designs can also encourage repeat purchases while creating a more engaging customer experience.I selected this product because it reflects several growing consumer trends, which include personalization, convenience, healthier snacking, and sustainability. The concept also aligns with PepsiCo’s reputation for innovation while growing its existing portfolio of trusted snack brands. SmartSnack Studio MixBox offers a unique experience that stands out from PepsiCo’s traditional snack assortments currently available in the market by allowing the consumers to customize a single snack product.

Research Objectives

Before launching SmartSnack Studio™ MixBox, PepsiCo must understand whether consumers perceive enough value in a customizable snack product to justify its introduction into the U.S. market. The primary objective of this research is to determine whether personalization influences consumers’ purchasing decisions and whether it addresses an unmet need in the snack food industry. The research will focus on six target groups: Parents, college students, busy professionals, remote workers, travelers, and health-conscious consumers. Each of these groups values convenience but may have different expectations regarding variety, pricing, nutrition, and packaging. By understanding these differences, it will help identify which market segments are most likely to adopt the product and how PepsiCo should position it.In addition to identifying the right target market, the research will examine the consumers’ preferences for acceptable price points, preferred purchasing channels, snack combinations, and the overall appeal of personalized nutrition features. The research will also evaluate how consumers currently satisfy their snacking needs, what they like and dislike or what they like about existing products, and which product improvements would most influence their purchasing decisions. The competitive landscape will also be examined to compare SmartSnack Studio MixBox with customizable snack services, healthy snack alternatives, and existing snack packs. Understanding competitors’ strengths, pricing strategies, product positioning, and distribution methods will help determine how PepsiCo can successfully differentiate this concept within the marketplace.

Research Design

To evaluate the market potential for SmartSnack Studio™ MixBox, I will use a mixed-methods research design that combines the secondary and the primary research. Using both approaches will provide a better understanding of market opportunities, consumer preferences, and the competitive landscape before recommending whether to launch the product in the United States.Primary research will consist of small focus groups and online consumer survey that will be representing the six target market segments. The survey will collect quantitative data on purchase intent, acceptable pricing, preferred snack combinations, purchasing habits, and the value consumers place on personalization. The focus groups will provide qualitative insights into consumer attitudes toward customization, nutrition features, packaging preferences, and overall appeal of the SmartSnack Studio MixBox concept. To support my research, I will review existing information from reliable sources, including PepsiCo’s annual reports, government publications, IBISWorld, Nielsen, and Mintel. These sources will help me understand current consumer trends, learn how competitors’ market similar products, and identify pricing and distribution strategies within the snack food industry. This information will also help me determine how SmartSnack Studio™ MixBox could stand out in a competitive market.External factors will also influence the success of SmartSnack Studio MixBox. Growing consumer interest for rising interest in sustainability, changing economic conditions, advances in digital technology, healthier snacks, and food labeling regulations can all have the potential to affect purchasing decisions. Understanding how these factors affect consumer expectations will help ensure that SmartSnack Studio MixBox is set up to meet both future industry trends and the current market demands.

Conclusion

PepsiCo’s strong reputation for consumer-focused products and innovation solutions makes it an excellent company for this marketing research project. The SmartSnack Studio MixBox offers a unique opportunity to meet the growing demand for convenience, personalization, and healthier snacking through a single customizable product. I hope to get a better understanding of consumer preferences, evaluate the competitive landscape, and determine whether this concept has the potential to succeed in the U.S. market by conducting both primary and secondary research. The findings from this research will provide valuable insight into how marketing research supports informed product development and strategic business decisions.
